Sylvia Hemmingway graduated from NCAD in 2006. Her prints have been shown in a number of exhibitions.
Her personal work explores issues of identity: the persistence of the past in the present, and the element of chance, in the make-up of the individual. She is passionate about increasing the awareness and appreciation of traditional printmaking and the variety and beauty of the surfaces it can produce. In addition to her own creative work, she is developing a project to set up a printing studio for the artistic community in the South East of Ireland which is the only area in the country without a printmaking facility.
Funding would enable her to purchase a small etching press and materials, and to adapt an area of her home to accommodate a studio where she could work on developing her ideas and projects on a small scale.
