Joe HOGAN
2005 Joint Merit Award

Joe Hogan is well known as a master basket weaver in willow, and his traditionally crafted creations have been widely exhibited. He has started to experiment with "non-functional" baskets incorporating other natural materials such as found pieces of wood, catkins, and tree bark. He hopes that this work will enable himself and others to "rediscover a sense of the sacredness of the natural world".

The funding provided by the award would enable him to take several months away from his normal work to pursue his experiments in this new vein.
