2022 marks twenty-one years since the establishment of the Golden Fleece Award through the bequest of its founder, the Dublin-based artist, educator and researcher Lillias Mitchell (1915-2000).
On 23 April, the Trustees of the Award celebrated its twenty-first birthday with a special Award Ceremony at Solstice Arts Centre in Navan, Co. Meath. This coincided with the opening of the exhibition The Golden Fleece Award: 21 years, a group show featuring work by 46 artists supported by the Golden Fleece Trust through the Award between 2002 and 2022. Curated by Aisling Prior, the exhibition runs at the arts centre until 4 June 2022.
Speakers at the event included Barbara Cotter (Chair of the Golden Fleece Award's Board of Trustees), Aisling Prior (exhibition curator), Lorna Donlan (one of six winners of the Golden Fleece Award 2021), Dr Helen McAllister (winner of the first Golden Fleece Award in 2002), and Ros Mitchell (niece of Lillias Mitchell and current Golden Fleece Award Trustee).
The 2022 Award was presented by Helen McAllister to the three 2022 winners - Michelle Malone, Locky Morris, and Laura Quinn - at the ceremony.
